John Fogerty Explains How Creedence Clearwater Revival Got Its Iconic Name

Musical legend John Fogerty explains how Creedence Clearwater Revival got its iconic name.

Every band has its origin story, whether a one-hit-wonder that was only around for a year or two or beloved classic groups like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. Those stories include everything from how the band members met to what led them to form a band and when and where they first played their first gig. These are just some of the questions surrounding bands that listeners typically want to know.

Another question that is usually of great interest to many is about a band’s name. How and why did they settle on this or that name? Many bands have come up with rather dull, mundane names that require no explanation. The Birds, The Monkees and The Eagles are just a few bands with bland names.

However, Creedence Clearwater Revival, often shortened to CCR, is one of the most unusual, memorable band names you’ll ever hear. So, how did the legendary band come up with its name? I must admit that’s something that has crossed my mind before. Well, in a video posted on YouTube, the band’s lead singer, John Fogerty, finally answers that question.

In the clip, John reveals that the band had previously been known as The Golliwogs, a name they used for three years but were not thrilled with.

“Now, we had been named The Golliwogs by Fantasy Records,” John said. “When the first single came out in 1964, surprising us that it actually said, “Little Girl,” was the name of the song, by The Golliwogs, who we didn’t know who that was. We thought it was a mistake.”

So, from October to December of 1967, they set out to come up with a new name, coming up with hundreds of suggestions, none of which they liked.

John states that while watching television on Christmas Eve in 1967, he saw back-to-back commercials that gave him some ideas and placed some images in his mind. Eventually, after a little more brainstorming, John came up with the name for the legendary band that many around the world know and love.

“I said to myself, ‘Creedence Clearwater Revival. Wow!’ John said in the clip. “That just sounded great to me! Still does!”

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Alice Cooper on Conquering Addiction and the Secret to His Long-lasting Marriage

Legendary rock musician Alice Cooper shared how he overcame alcoholism, cocaine and the secret to his long-lasting marriage.

Rock stars are known for their wild, crazy and outlandish lifestyles, living life to the extreme in every way imaginable. Wild parties, tons of drugs and copious amounts of alcohol are par for the course for rock musicians. Words like “stop,” “slow down” and “moderation” are not part of their vocabularies.

Alice Cooper knows this rock-and-roll lifestyle very well. For years, he lived it, traveling the road, playing one sold-out show after another to screaming, adoring crowds. Eventually, Alice says he developed a terrible drinking habit, becoming an alcoholic. He was slowly but surely killing himself.

To make matters even worse, Alice said he also got into drugs. The “No More Mr. Nice Guy” singer became a frequent and heavy user of cocaine. It was at some point during this period that his wife had had enough of his heavy alcohol and drug use. She returned home to Chicago, leaving him in L.A.

She wanted to see changes, and eventually, she gave him a task that would change his life forever.

“In order to get her back, she says, ‘Here’s part of it, we have to go to Christian counseling, and you have to set it up, not me. I want to see you set this up.’ So, I did,” Alice said in a clip on YouTube. “And we went into Christian counseling and got our marriage back together and started going to church.”

Alice added that “the most amazing thing” came from counseling and attending church. His desire and appetite for alcohol instantly vanished.

“Woke up the next morning, and there’s no craving,” he said. “For 37 years, there was no craving. It went; it was gone. The doctor said, ‘It was like you had cancer one day, and the next day you didn’t have cancer.’”

He added that in addition to his craving for alcohol disappearing, he also never experienced any withdrawals. Alice praises Jesus Christ for saving his life.

“To me, He basically said, ‘Be a rock star, but follow Me. I don’t care if you’re a rock star, just, you know, your life, your lifestyle is going to be your testimony.’”

As far as his marriage, Alice and Sheryl have been married for 43 years. The rock star says having “total trust in each other” has helped them sustain their relationship.

“You know, I always tell people, ‘Marry the person you’re in love with, don’t marry the person you love.’ There’s a big commitment there; it means you’re involved, you’re both connected,” he said. “My wife always says, ‘It’s not 50-50, it’s 100-100.’”

Heroic Woman Safely Lands Plane After Her Husband, The Pilot, Has Heart Attack

A heroic woman managed to safely land a plane after her husband, the pilot, suffered a heart attack during the flight.

Hero, heroism and heroic are words that are used far too often in society. Today, everyone can be a hero, and one does not have to do much to have that title bestowed upon them. Those words are erroneously used to describe more and more people all the time.

Run for office while promising people anything and everything as you use colorful language, and many deem you a hero. Or put a ball through a hoop, throw a football a certain number of yards or memorize and spout lines written by someone else, and you will also be someone worthy of that title. The definition of hero and heroism has become incredibly warped and skewed. Not many, if any, of those people described are heroic.

However, one woman, Yvonne Kinane-Wells, is a hero. She came through in a big way during an unbearably stressful and high-pressure, life-or-death situation. Yvonne landed a plane without incident after her husband, who was the pilot of their private plane, suffered a heart attack mid-flight. The incident happened as Yvonne and her husband were flying from Las Vegas to Monterey, California.

In a clip posted on YouTube, an air traffic control operator talks Yvonne through the landing procedure. Before the emergency, Yvonne had no piloting experience. Instead of Monterey, the air traffic controller directed Yvonne to the Bakersfield Airport.

In the interactions with air traffic control, Yvonne stayed cool, calm and collected despite the intense and scary circumstances. With air traffic control’s instructions, Yvonne somehow manages to land the plane at the airport without even so much of a scratch.

“Well, it’s, it’s to my knowledge, unprecedented,” said one airport official. “I’ve never seen it in my entire career.”

Yvonne is undoubtedly worthy of being called a hero. She did something most people would never dream of doing during an intense, life-or-death situation. One could even call what Yvonne did a miracle.

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and take heart, and have no fear of them: for it is the Lord your God who is going with you; he will not take away his help from you.”

Teen Delivers Powerful Message on Loneliness and the Importance of Friendship

A teenager delivered a powerful and moving message on loneliness and the importance of friendship.

Unfortunately, we will all experience trials, valleys and storms in life. Those instances will all leave their marks mentally, emotionally or physically. Sadly, no one will be able to escape this life unscathed. Those gut-wrenching and heartbreaking periods will come for us all at one time or another.

Those instances will likely bring about intense pain, sorrow and grief. But as awful as those may be, one of the absolute worst feelings in the world is loneliness. Believing that no one cares and that you’re going through something alone can and will only make an already painful and worrisome episode much worse.

In a clip posted on YouTube, a 14-year-old young man stands before a congregation and delivers a powerful message about feeling alone. In his quick, five-minute sermon, the youngster highlights several passages of Scripture to highlight the importance of friendship and the devastating impact of loneliness.

He drew upon a situation in his life to help illustrate his point about friendship and the need to feel less alone in the world. He mentions that in the seventh grade, he joined the football team. Despite having made what he believed several friends on the team, he always sat alone on the bus on the way to away games. This happened throughout the entire season, he pointed out.

He used that situation in his life to talk to members of the congregation who may have had an empty seat next to them. Perhaps they had felt rejected. But the Bible, the young man astutely points out, addressed this topic, specifically drawing upon the words of Jesus Christ.

Loneliness impacts many people in this world today. Maybe you’ve felt alone at one time or another. Perhaps we can be that person, that friend who could help someone feel less alone, rejected and hurt.

Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born adversity.”

Actress Danica McKellar Shares Heartwarming and Moving 'Godwinks' in Her Life

Actress Danica McKellar shares heartwarming and moving “Godwinks” that she has experienced in life.

The Lord is good beyond measure, always faithful, loving and quick to forgive. He keeps no record of our past wrongs. Once we humbly ask for forgiveness, it’s as if that sin never happened in His view. The blood Christ spilled on the cross wipes it away, erasing it from the record.

None of us deserves such treatment or the gift of forgiveness. All have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. Yet He continues to remain a faithful and loving God. The Bible states that even when we were sinners, Christ demonstrated His immense, immeasurable love by willingly laying down His life for us.

The Lord does not stop there. If that were the case, it would still be more than we deserve. However, He continues to bless and touch our lives in countless ways. One of the ways He does so is through what has come to be known as “Godwinks,” minor occurrences that demonstrate God’s love and how He is working in our lives.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Danica shared two “Godwinks” in her life. These are two instances in which God showed her how much He cares and how closely He’s paying attention to what is happening in her life.

In the first instance, Danica states that she recently lost June, a longtime friend and acting coach. June passed away before she started work on a film. Being close to her dear friend, Danica took June’s passing hard. She mentioned that starting to prepare for the film was a difficult, emotional task without June.

But God has something planned to provide her some comfort and healing.

“And I open, I open the script to start working on it, and I just, I was overwhelmed with sadness,” Danica said. “And I said, ‘God, please show me that June is still with me, that she’s still with me in this process of preparing for this movie.’ And I open the script, and my mother’s name in the movie was June.”

Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Elderly Couple in Paris Captures Hearts with the Sweetest Photo Moment

An elderly couple in Paris, France, captured hearts with the absolute sweetest photo moment.

Between work obligations and family responsibilities, life can be a demanding and stressful experience. That’s why it’s always a good idea for your physical and mental health to get away for a little bit and go on vacation. If nothing else, enjoy what is often called a “staycation,” where you don’t go into the office but remain home for a few days.

But if you’re looking to spend that vacation time traveling, there are thousands of places to visit in the world, depending, of course, on your budget. Many people prefer to go somewhere warm and tropical, so Florida, California and Mexico are always popular tourist spots. Still, other individuals may opt for different locales, such as Europe and Asia.

No matter where you decide to go, vacation is about relaxing, spending time and making memories with the people you love the most. A short but sweet video posted on social media captures an elderly couple making memories during their visit to Paris, France.

The 25-second clip begins with the man holding a camera, looking for someone to take a photo of his wife and himself. Eventually, seconds into the video, someone comes to the elderly couple’s aide and agrees to take their picture together.

The video then zooms in on the elderly man smiling and standing behind his wife, who is in a wheelchair. The two of them pose for the camera with big smiles on their faces.

What a sweet and precious photo!

The video's text indicates that the man and his wife were visiting Paris as they crossed the City of Lights off their bucket list.

Vacations are about having fun and relaxing, but they’re also about making memories with those around you that will last a lifetime.

Colossians 3:14 “And more than all, have love; the only way in which you may be completely joined together.”

Terri Irwin Offers Encouraging Words on Navigating Grief and Finding Hope

Terri Irwin, who was the wife of the late Steve Irwin, offered some encouraging words on navigating grief and finding hope.

Life can and, sadly, does bring about some of the most devastating, soul-crushing and demoralizing circumstances. Without even a moment’s notice, our entire world can change. Tragedy can strike anyone at any time. Horrible circumstances and situations do not discriminate; they visit everyone at one point or another.

That’s why reminding those closest to us how much we love and care about them is important. Something might happen; some unforeseen event could take place that removes that individual from our lives forever. People can be here one minute and gone the next. The Bible says that our lives are like a mist or a vapor, seen for a time but then quickly gone.

However, the good Lord does not leave our side when tragedy strikes. Instead, He walks with us through those dark valleys and storms. In those instances, He offers comfort, healing and shelter from those overwhelming circumstances. And because of Him, we have hope and a future, even when it may not seem possible during the pain and sorrow.

Terri Irwin knows pain, grief and heartache well. Years ago, she lost her beloved husband Steve, better known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” during one of his many encounters with wildlife. She offers some wisdom and insight into dealing with grief, including how one thing people say when tragedy strikes is incorrect.

“Eventually, when they say time heals all wounds, it doesn’t,” she said. “But eventually, it changes it, and it walks next to you. It’s always there, and you have to acknowledge your grief, but it’s, it’s a companion rather than an all-consuming feeling. And if we can focus on that and focus on there’s some grief that you never really get over, it’s okay. You’re going to be okay.”

Later in the interview, Terri states that after loss and heartache, there is life. Life does go on after experiencing hurt.

“And the sun will shine again,” she said. “It may not shine as bright, but it’ll shine again. So, that’s what you have to hold onto.”

Psalm 23:4 “Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.”

Make Your Ways Known to Me, Lord | Psalm 25 Meditation and Prayer

This Christian meditation and prayer from Psalm 25 invites us to ask God to direct our steps. Get your FREE Praying with The Psalms Journal here: https://idyllic-fashion-59593.myflodesk.com/psalms Is there an area in your life where you fear God could let you down? You aren’t alone. David, the author of Psalm 25, expressed this same fear to God when he said: “Do not let me be disgraced; do not let my enemies gloat over me.” And then David reminded his soul that God is trustworthy; therefore, he would not be disgraced if he waited on God. This led David to pray the prayer we all need: show me the way, Lord. If you’re facing something that concerns you and wonder how to move forward, take some time to meditate on and pray through this Psalm. God will show you the way. He will help you know how to move forward. You can trust him. Kathie Lee Gifford Shares How Her Faith in Jesus Kept Her Out Of An Insane Asylum

Author and former television talk show host Kathie Lee Gifford says that if not for her faith in and personal relationship with Jesus Christ, she would have ended up in an insane asylum.

Life can often be cruel, sad and lonely. Unfortunately, we will all encounter painful, heartbreaking and grief-filled circumstances. Storms and deep, dark valleys are part of life on Earth. No one can avoid and escape this life without experiencing their fair share of those situations.

Sadly, some circumstances may get so intense and gut-wrenching that they push you to your breaking point. It may even get to the point that you feel you can no longer continue and that going on feels too tall of a task. Kathie Lee Gifford fully understands how painful life can be and how it can drive even the most sane, level-headed person to their limit.

In an interview with Fox News, Kathie credits her relationship with and faith in Jesus Christ for keeping her sane during life’s storms and valleys.

“I would be in an insane asylum without Jesus,” she said. “I would. I’ve been through a lot of crappy stuff in my life. I’ve been blessed beyond belief as well.”

She admits that while she has been blessed in life, she is certain that some of what she has experienced would have sent her away for a long time if not for Christ.

“But I’ve had a lot of things that ended up being very public, too, that would have put me away for a long time and done a lot of damage to my family, to my everything,” she said. “If I hadn’t, I was already holding Jesus’ hand. When you go through the kinds of things that I went through in, you know, 20 years, you just cling, you just cling tighter.”

Psalm 32:7 “You are my safe and secret place; you will keep me from trouble; you will put songs of salvation on the lips of those who are round me. (Selah).

Son Fulfills Promise to His Mom with Surprise New Car, Bringing Her to Tears

One young man fulfilled his promise to his mom by surprising her with a new car, which brought her to tears.

There is so much wrong and evil about this broken and fallen world. There aren’t many people, if any, you can place 100% trust and certainty in today. Politicians and others in leadership positions constantly say one thing, promise this or that, and then turn around and do the exact opposite, breaking that promise. Essentially, people aren’t great at keeping their word.

When it comes down to it, that’s all we have, right? If I can’t trust what you say and that you will keep your word, then why bother talking to that person? That is why marriage vows and other sacred promises are so important. The foundation of those relationships is based on individuals keeping their words and promises.

A clip posted on YouTube captures a young man fulfilling a promise he made to his mother. As a 10-year-old, Tyler told his mom he would buy her a new car. The clip mentions that as a child, he saw how his mother struggled with her vehicle, and he wanted to do something to help and show her how much he loved her.

Well, 11 years later, as a 21-year-old, that young man came through on that promise. He kept his word to his mother. It’s a moment that is likely to bring tears to your eyes, like it did for the boy’s mother.

In the video, the woman sits in the driver’s seat as Tyler asks her about the car’s comfortability before the big moment.

“Is the seat comfortable,” Tyler asks his mom.

“Very comfortable,” she says.

“Well, better get used to it because it’s your car,” Tyler tells her as he tries to hand her the keys.

She does not believe him, even going so far as to ask if he’s lying to her.

Tyler repeatedly confirms that, yes, the vehicle is hers. She then breaks into tears, unable to believe that her son has just gifted her a car.

What a sweet moment of a son keeping his word and fulfilling his promise to his mom.

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slowing in keeping his word, as he seems to some, but he is waiting in mercy for you, not desiring the destruction of any, but that all may be turned from their evil ways.”

Bride’s Emotional Vow Reading Leaves Groom and Wedding Guests in Tears

One bride’s emotional vow reading left her groom and their wedding guests in tears.

Marriage is a big step and commitment for every couple. During the lovely wedding ceremony, the bride and groom promise to stay with one another for the rest of their lives. It doesn’t matter the circumstance or situation – good, bad or indifferent – they agree to remain by each other’s side.

While a wedding and a marriage are about making and keeping promises to one another, they are also about doing things to show the other person how much you care and love them. There are an endless number of ways to show your significant other love. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as your act shows that you did it for them and considered their thoughts and feelings.

A simple gesture or act could mean the world to your significant other. A heartwarming, tear-jerking act captured how one woman used her wedding vows to show how much she cares for and loves her husband-to-be. But it wasn’t so much what she said, but how she said them that had the groom and their wedding guests bawling.

While standing at a microphone and reading from a small booklet, the bride surprised everyone at the wedding, including the groom, by speaking in Armenian. Seconds after she started speaking in Armenian, it was too much for the groom. Overcome with emotion, he immediately turns away from the camera.

She begins her vows by saying, “I promise to learn Armenian because I know how important it is to you.”

When the groom turns back around to face the bride, he is on the verge of tears, eyes red and his lip quivering at the woman’s surprising and beautiful act.

The camera also catches several guests wiping their eyes, who were also moved by the bride’s loving gesture.

She ends her moving vows by promising to remain by his side through life’s highs and lows, even if that means going to “the place where the donkey dies.” It’s unclear what that means, but it gets a big laugh.

Genesis 2:24 “Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh.”
